Analysis of the system performance of an industrial ring rolling mill (Master Thesis)
Ring rolling is a flexible process to produce seamless rings with diameters from 100mm up to 10 meters of steel, aluminum alloys and different other materials. The industrial application of these rolled rings can be found in the energy, aircraft and petrochemical fields. The Institute of Metal Forming (IBF) at the RWTH Aachen University operates an industrial scale ring rolling mill (radial-axial “Banning H100/80V”) in order to investigate this complex metal forming process. Additionally the IBF has competitive software resources able to carry out simulations via Finite Element Method.
Task: Improve actual closed loop control system.
Previous work: Model with tooling movement already integrated.
Software: Matlab.
Major: Mechanical engineer, Elektrotechinik.
Completion time: According to the university requirements.
