Numerical Study on Hemodynamic Interation between an In-SeriesVentricular Assist Device and Human Circulatory System

Right heart failure contributes to high mortality and is especially commonly induced after cardiac surgery, such as heart transplantation and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. Current right heart support devices are either limited to short-term acute support or restricted to critically ill patients due to the invasive surgery. This project is to develop a minimally invasive right ventricular assist device (MIRVAD) for long-term use.
This study is a proof-of-principle to evaluate the in-series operation of a RVAD. The student needs to use MATLAB/Simulink to develop a computational RVAD model to be implemented in a computational human circulatory system (HCS). The interation between the pump and the HCS is to be studied.

Voraussetzungen:
Background: physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science or control engineering
Motivation and high interest on numerical model development and optimisation
Skill: Matlab/Simulink
Good English communication skill is preferred
